Having problems with my neighbors wireless system.
I set it up about a year ago, Netgear ME-102 AP & 2 laptops. One toshiba &
one compaq, using netgear & SWC nics.
Using mac address filtering & 128 wep. Ran fine.
The compaq (old) gave out and his other daughter bought a new one. Both new
laptops are HPs (ze4540 & ze4400). One has built in wireless nic. Could not
get it to work. Used the netgear 521 & swc 2635 nics in both. Used the same
mac address & wep settings. Tried leting the XP utility to control it and
tried using each nics utility to control it. The signal strength & link
quality are strong. They both connect to the internet & get their IP address
AS LONG as they are within 5 feet of the AP. When you move farther away, the
signal & link are both very strong BUT the internet STOPS working!!!!
Driving me nuts ... please help. Tried updating the nic drivers, no
difference.
Is there a conflict with the HPs & the nics? or ????
