If the cost of Linux is to purchase a dedicated printer, I will have to
make the economic decision and put XP on this box.

I'm afraid "Help me, or else" won't buy much sympathy.

As far as I can see, there is no Mac driver either... In fact,
the only driver available is for Windows.

Ignoring Windows-only hardware might make manufacturers take notice?
