I'm trying to choose a wireless (802.11b) router to create a local
free hotspot. I'm in a sort of dip with a few short trees so I'm going
to use a 3m antenna mast with an omni on the end to give better
coverage. Any recommendations on routers with N-type antenna
connections?

David Taylor is waiting for his _little_ hotspot box to arrive, so he can
test it and give us all a test report ;-)

How serious is this hotspot going to be? Trying to serve a community, or
people outside your sandwich shop?

Well for me, I might get some revenue from the wife and kids!

In our case, we are opposite a hotel, there's a possible opportunity to
aim an antenna at it, it's where I used to stay so I know how things
work there and I used to aim cans from their windows back to work.

They would probably be up for even partnering with us to provide it to
the rooms with the AP's in their building.

I also have a couple of other locations in mind but more as a spin off
hobby part of our business than a major empire creation.

That little box does seem to be about right for the 9 to 5 type coffee
shop where they deal in cash and all the cashier has to do is press one
of 4 buttons. Can't wait!

David.

Further to this, i've found a few other links with manufacturer details

t_wsg5000.htm>

Here's another supplier with a "contact us" which shows a US dealer in
Houston

and another

I think I should add that the router will have to be one of the
conventional cheap indoor types. It'll be inside the loft and I'm
going to drill a hole through the wall through which I will run LMR400
coax. The antenna mast will be an extension of existing mast holding a
TV yagi.

I dare you to try to contact these folks. I used to get my Engenius/Senao
cards from them but I havn't been able to get email through to them in a
while (at a minimum their DNS setup is broken). Their contact form is also
broken. Most products they list however should be available from Engenius
(you may need to be a reseller to buy direct). I should be set up as a
reseller for them this week since I can't find another good source for their
cards so if you can't find them anywhere else let me know.

Fine. Just as long as it has something I can attach a pigtail to.

I won't be bothering but I know what you mean. They just chuck them out
in .tw but getting real contact is something else.

There are actually plenty of distributors in the UK that I could find so
it's not really a problem. The issue was identifying the product that I
first posted about.
