Hi

I'd like to open a free hotspot for travelers - but not a permanent internet
access for my neighbors.
Is there a software or AP available to control and log access to my AP.

Thanks for your help

Michael

Yes and no. There is a product that should be usable for this, but I
suspect that it is moderately simple to defeat. Your neighbors, should
they want to, might be able to get around it. Common passersby probably
would not.

http://www.dnsredirector.com seems to be a lightweight way to do that
.... and block access to your competitors' web pages at the same time ;-)
I say lightweight because it seems to me that it would be simple to bypass,
but if you are going to be free, and just want a splash screen, and a
nominally enforced login or signup of some sort, it might be good.

When you say "travelers" what do you mean? Do you mean people that are
driving by, somewhere in the area or staying with you?

If they're staying with you, you might be interested in the hotspot in a
box:-

I'm currently playing with one to see what I can do with it.

David.

I can't find a hotspot in a box on that page.

Looks like they make lots of almost-the-same things, like several different
Cardbus NICs. Are these all rebranded and sold with familiar names?

Their site is pretty much broken but if you wander around enough you will
eventually find something called WAS-002 (Wireless Application Solution)
which is what I think DT is tinkering with.

Ok, on that page, enter WAS-001 in the search thing.

It's the one I posted the link to a few weeks back if you remember?

David.
