I have setup a small hot spot using the ZyXel B-4000 "hot spot in a box."
Works pretty good, page redirects (internal or external), username/password
authentication (which it creates for you), and some basic accounting. It
also has a little printer that prints the username and password to give to
the user.
Take a look at
www.zyxel.com and select ZyAir B-4000 from the "select a
product" box.
There are a couple of things you should be aware of before you buy it. I
have worked around them, but you just need to be aware...
1. The router has level 2 VLAN security on every port (wired and wireless)
and it is not configurable. This is both good and bad. Prevents hacking
but also limits setting up an internal shared network. I got around this by
having a separate router for my internal network.
2. You cannot remotely administer the router with the current firmware
revision.
It is actually working out fairly good, haven't had any problems in the 2-3
weeks it's been up and running in a public area.
