Hostplus/Deenine restricting access to an IP address

Hi guys,

I have three websites on the Deenine network -

www.cbams.net
www.yggwyr.swansea.sch.uk
www.wrenvalenurseries.co.uk

Other broadband networks can see them, however neither I nor my clients can
see the websites. All of use are using a Force9 broadband account.

We know it is not a Force9 problem, as we have spoken to their support
people.

Hostplus mentioned that the IP addresses might be blocked for some reason
and are looking into it. What I want to know is why they would do this.

Someone mentioned that maybe a DOS had originated from our static IPs, but
my machine is locked down tight, nothing gets in our out without my
permission.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Can you ping them?

I am on Force 9, I get:

>ping www.cbams.net

Pinging www.cbams.net [212.67.195.70] with 32 bytes of

Reply from 212.67.195.70: bytes=32 time=38ms TTL=245

A mysterious problem arose for me with some sites until I set my MTU to
1472. Some websites would not respond, especially secure banking ones.

Its as if some parts of the network can't cope with a 1500 packet size,
others can.

Use DrTCP http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp to change it easily.

Hi Nat,

Um, not I cannot ping them. Neither I nor my client can ping the IP
addresses - which are 212.67.195.70

I am stumped. Nobody from Hostplus.co.uk or DeeNine Internet (the parent
company) have phoned me back today, so I guess I will have to wait until
tomorrow.

When you tracert the websites it gets as far as:
ext-fe1-0-wf1.webfusion.co.uk and then times out.

It has been like this for 10 days and already my clients are asking for
compensation. Trying to get anyone on the phone is impossible.

Gareth

That's the last step (13) on my trace before I get there. 3 plusnet
addresses and 7 NTL on route.

Must be something at their end.

Hi Nat,

Yes, apparently DeeNine support, who finally answered the phone this
evening, have told me that this is the router or switch that takes you into
their hardware. They are (apparently) at this very minute looking into their
logs to see why my IP addresses have been banned.

Thanks for your help,

Gareth Edmondson

I've had misrouting problems with servers in the past. Sometimes it is a
router half way, or at the server farm. Always handy to have access to a
second (third, or more) servers. I have reseller accounts with at least 4
firms at present (though one has given 7 days notice they plan to close a
server down... no big worry for me, just a bit of typing to do now :-)

Having a standby is always useful, in my experience. Good luck. Peter.

Well thanks to those who contacted me regarding Hostplus/Deenine internet
banning my address. DeeNine Support added both banned IP addressed to a
whitelist, but it still didn't work.

Therefore I contacted Force9 and they have changed the two static IP
addresses to two new static addresses. The mail on the first mahcine is now
working. We need to test the second machine tomorrow.

Thanks again everyone

Gareth

Whoops, I take that back - Force9 have changed one address (by mistake), but
have informed me that they do not change IP addresses, and the first one
should not have been changed in the first place.

Back to DeeNine Support then - who still have not fixed the original problem
after 16 days.
