hooking two computers together

i have two WinMe computers and i just wish to hook them
together to share files and play games with my kids there
is no need for internet sharing i just want to be able to
access both computer so we can play head to head games

a cross-over cable will work

Not unless he installs an ethernet adapter in each machine first.
