Homeplug causing radio interference?

I was about to buy a pair for a friend whose metre-thick stone walls are
proving a problem for wifi, when an item in the Guardian prompted me to
read the BBC's cautionary note about radio interference:

http://www.bbcworld.com/content/clic...65&co_pageid=3

The note seems to be saying that Homeplug has been tested not to
interfere with FM or with amateur-radio frequencies - but that there are
parts of the short-wave frequency bands where Homeplug does cause
interference (presumably including some of the frequencies that World
Service broadcasts on).

Does anyone know what sort of distance we are talking about for this
interference? To be a good neighbour, how widely does one need to check
for Short-Wave listeners: Just with those within a few feet of one's
domestic wiring - or everyone within a hundred yards?

if used domestically it doesn't go very far - sometimes it won't go as
far as you want it to on your own wiring. The meter coils attenuate it
from getting onto the distribution.

Much of what you may read may be about using the technology to supply
broadband over power lines externally, where the power levels and
radiation potential are much greater.

Not knowing which frequency, its hard to say how far. Potentially, it could
be heard world wide because of the nature of house wiring, its impossible to
say how good (or bad) radiator of RF it is.
