Home network via electrical wiring

Has anyone experience of setting up a home network using the electrical wiring in the house with hardware such as this:

Is it effective? Are there any problems with interference?

Hi

I live in a town house, so that the house is spread over three floors. I use
powerline networking at home and have not encountered any problems at all.
The device which we use is a Solwise device
http://www.solwise.co.uk/net-powerline.htm.
I bought a couple of "plugs" direct from Solwise then bought a couple more
on eBay as they were slightly cheaper.

A past user has commented that the system works well.

Solwise.co.uk compares Wi-Fi with the Homeplug units they sell. Seems that
for many (for internet access around the house) the lowest speed (~25 quid)
units would be OK. Solwise also stock 85 Mbps units, and faster, too.

Some friends of mine have just recently (August) signed up for NamesCo
internet service and decided to buy some units because they don't want
to have to cable from the dining room up to the front bedroom and also
didn't want to use wireless. When they are back from holiday, they're
likely to want a hand setting it up with their PC (not technical at all),
so hopefully I'll see just how well things work out for myself.

Some others are branded as "Devolo".
