I'm currently using Windows Server 2003 Standard on my
home computer. My main computer, which is running
Windows XP SP1a, dials up my internet and shares it to
the computer running Windows Server 2003. The way I
understand it, is that Windows XP has a method to let
other computers on the network control an internet
connection. I have enabled this on my Windows XP
machine, but the connection doesn't show up in my Windows
2003 connections list. While if I log onto my network
with another XP machine, or a Windows 2000 machine, they
both have it listed in their network connections list.
Is there a group policy or service that I need to enable
or set to allow access to this? Or is it impossible to
see this connection with Windows Server 2003?

First question, why are you using Server 2003 as a "client" to an XP?

Second, what exactly do you expect to "see" on a client machine which is
using Internet Connection Sharing on another machine? Is the W2k3 machine
set to obtain its IP address automatically? Does it get an IP in the same
subnet as the XP?

As long as your machine is in the same IP subnet as the ICS machine and
has that machine's IP as its default gateway and DNS server, it should be
able to use ICS.

I know I know I know. Silly to use a server side system as a client. "Yeah, whaddaevar."

But I think you misunderstood. The ICS is working fine. What I'm talking about is how XP will allow other comes to control the connection it has. As in, XP machine #1 hosts the connection while computer #2 can double click "Connection on XP machine #1" and have #1 connect. I realize that this is half a XP question. But with two XP machines, the client can see that icon with no problem. While a 2k3 client computer cannot.
