If you have a residential gateway or router, they act as the best
firewalls. No need for any additional software on your machines.

I am a little confuse every one I talk to said that I still should purchase
a software firewall program even though I have a Linksys router.

For once, "everyone" were correct...soho routers are not a panacea...

That is right because a Software Firewall is a bit easier to handle
and it can easy help you to block not only incoming connections
because sometime you want to block outgoing connections or control
outgoing connections in that case a software firewall is more suitable
than a router firewall.
