I currently have 2 computers networked using network cards
in each computer and WinGate networking software. This
system works OK most of the time. However, recently the
client computer can't access the server computer. I am
thinking about switching to the Microsoft networking that
is available in Win 98SE. I was told once that this setup
would not work because I use Earthlinks satellite system
for my ISP connection and the Earthlink system does not
use a router and therefore the MS network software would
not work ????? Can anyone shed any light on this
situation. TIA

The built-in ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) feature in Win 98SE can
share most types of Internet connections. If your Earthlink satellite
system uses a single Ethernet connection for sending and receiving
data, then ICS can definitely share it. If you have a "one-way"
satellite connection that uses a phone line for sending data, I'm not
sure.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you were told about your
Earthlink system not using a router.

My Earthlink satellite system is a 2 way system with separate transmit
and receive modems. There are 2 coax cables coming from the satellite
antenna. one connects to the receive modem and one cable connects to
the transmit modem. There is a single USB connection from the computer
to the receive modem. Does this doesn't sound like a "single ethernet
connection"? TIA Loring H
