Home Network Disconnection Woes

My laptop is an IBM Thinkpad with an Intel 2100 Wireless card. I
have a wireless modem that connects with my Desktop and a DSL service.

1. I get disconnected very often and cann't find the reason. The
signalls are strong (even with only a few feet from the router).

2. On the Windows Wireless Network Connections Properties, the
"Use Windows to Configure my Wireless Settings" keeps getting
unchecked ! Usually after log on, I have this checked but then it
gets unchecked by itself ever so often.

3. Sometimes windos will detect my wireless connection but show
the SSID as " Unsecured computer-to-computer wireless network" even
though I have a secured newtwork with WAP.

Any ideas on these problems ? I guess they are related somehow.

You should mention the type of router and how you have it setup. Even
though you mentioned it in a previous message, there is no guarantee
that other people had seen it. Anyways, you mentioned in your previous
message that you're using a Speedstream router with with SSID disabled
and either WEP or WPA security enabled?

Does this happen more when the SSID is enabled or disabled?

Thanks - Yes, I still have the Speetream wireless router/modem
installed. The disconnections happens regardless of the SSID
setting. I read somewhere months ago regarding disconnections and the
use of Windows XP , but it was before I had a wirelees system and did
not pay too much attention to it.

Does it happen when the router is particularly busy? Lots of packets
coming and going from it. You should also test to see if it happens if
security is disabled. I wouldn't worry too much about data going out
unencrytped over the air while you're testing.
