Please help

Yes, I can share the Internet connection between all of
the 3 computers, either 2 with Speedstream router or as
you stated all 3 computers via the 5 port Speedstream
Switch I connected to the Speedstream router. The
computers can " see " each other in network neighbourhood,
However when I want to share files the network, I cannot
share the files. I assumed it was the lack of the ICS not
being present. As Linda stated there is another way,or as
you stated ICS is not necessary( I always assumed that ).

How would the 3 computers share without ICS ?

thanks for your help.

Clement

I already replied to the exact same message that you posted with the
subject title "Re: Home Lan Network with 1 W2000 computer as
Host/server for 2 other W98 SE compute". Did you see that reply? If
not, I'm repeating it here.

Don't use ICS. If you've installed it on any computer(s), un-install
it.

Connect one of the Speedstream router's LAN ports to the uplink port
of the switch. Connect the computers to regular ports on the switch.

Since the computers can " see " each other in Network Neighborhood,
they can also share files with each other. However, you say that they
can't share the files. We need more information to help you solve the
problem:

How are you trying to share files? What exactly are you doing, and
what exactly happens when you do it? What is the complete text of all
error messages? The more details you give, the more likely it is that
someone can help.

Steve you are correct you did mention the uplink.

My aim is to be able to share and even copy files between
computers. Share would be technically different that
copying files from one to another computer.

As described below steve, uplink conected to the router
and the switch have 3 computers connected to the regular
ports.

The result is that in network neighbourhood, I am now
prompted for a password when I want to explore one of the
machines ( Right click and explore )

I assume I must set-up a list of access rights in between
each computer and each computer ?

Your Speedstream router can share
the cable modem connection between all of the computers.
If the
router doesn't have enough ports for all of them, connect
the router
to the uplink port on the switch and use the other switch
ports for
computers.

Clement, please give complete details of what's happening so that
other people can understand the situation. You can see everything,
but we can't. We only know as much as you tell us.

What version of Windows is each computer running: the one on which
you're using Network Neighborhood, and the one that you're trying to
explore?

What exactly are you right-clicking and trying to explore: a computer,
a shared disk, a shared folder, or something else?

What is the complete and exact text of the password prompt?

Have you define a password for any network shares?

Thanks for those details, Clement. They help give others a better
picture of the problem.

I'm puzzled by the password prompt. W98 SE doesn't have passwords for
computers. It does have passwords for shared disks and folders, but
only if you explicitly define them.

Are you sure that this happens when you try to explore a W98 SE
computer? I could understand it if it happens when you try to explore
a W2K pro computer.

What is the complete and exact text of the password prompt? Please
list every single word in it.

Click the Start button on W98 SE and look at the "Log Off" entry.
Does it include a user name, like "Log Off Steve", or does it just say
"Log Off"?
