Hidden NIC/Network icons ?

After replacing a motherboard on a Win2003 Enterprise server the original
network connections that were installed apparently got deleted - or more
appropriately 'hidden' (?). The drivers and two new network connections were
apparently auto-installed with the default factory settings (e.g. obtain IP
address automatically, etc...), but when trying to reconfigure them with the
original settings an error messge pops up that says something to the effect
of: "The IP address you have entered is already assigned to another server
adapter that is hidden because it is not physically installed. If the same
address is used and the hidden adapter becomes active (blah blah) ...." It
is also weird because every time I try to delete the adapters from device
manager and then reinstall them they get a higher # like Intel Pro Adapter #
9, Intep Pro Adapter #10 (showing that apparently it is saving the old
deleted and hidden settings somewhere.) How/Where in the registry can I
'clean-out' these hidden settings and then install the network adapters again
as a fresh, clean install ? TIA ...
