I dont want to waste anyones time here handholding a novice who is
about to install a wireless network. Can you point me to a resource
that will answer the following questions.

1. OK I got the router out of the box, I think it goes in between my
cable modem and my PC but what else do I need to know/do.

2. I am buying a new laptop with wireless card. It cant be as easy
as turning it on, it connects right up to the router and away I go
can it?

3. I currently have an old intel anypoint phone line network between
my "main" PC and 2 older ones ( win 98 and win95 ) can I leave it in
place and it will still connect to the main PC and then the outside
world.

I know the last one is quite out there but if you know of a location
that has pretty good basic information I would appreciate it.

Then look under Troubleshooting & Tutorials. It not as hard as some have
made it sound.

I am glad to help you out. I got into the wireless just in December but
have quite a bit of experience now. Most routers come with a default
setting to automatically receive an IP address and to automatically
assign an IP address. Yes it could be that easy to plug it in and away
it goes. As for the laptop, it probably is not that easy, you will need
to get into the configuration of the wireless card and you may have to
scan and then choose your wireless connection. It really is not too
hard. The routers usually come with easy instructions and easy pictures.
Good luck
Michael

OK got the router and the new PC on the same day. Went together pretty
easily and i am up and running my desktop wired to the router and the
lap top wireless. So far so good.

How do I get them to talk to each other??? Share files and let me use
the printer on the desktop from the laptop?

I have read some on networking and seems to point me to having to run
"network set-up wizard" looking at this it keeps talking about
generating a set-up disk to run in each computer. Guess what, my
laptop doesnt have a floppy disk. what else can I do?

I cant imagine there isnt an easier way to see files and printers
through the router?? I want to be able to access my music files that
are on my desktop on my laptop.

I agree. Sometimes I just have to make my frustration known. There's
nothing more aggravating than being shut out of your own system because of
some dumb 'administrator rights' or 'account' not made to yourself or some
other garbage. There ought to be a simple mode where end users don't even
"see'' that crap unless they 'choose' to. We pay microsoft gazillions of
dollars and 'things do not get better'...just more complex. My opinion like
my asshole. And I really do hope Gates chokes on a wad of thousand dollar
bills (no, make that monopoly money).

The Link below has a lot of information if you run into any problems
networking.
