Help - Wireless works But i cannot access the AP Settings

Hi,

Its kind of a weird one this.

I bought a nice shiny new netgear wg602, and installed it, and installed a
wi fi card in my PC.

Ok now i can get on to the internet and all thiat fine, but when it comes
down to accessing the "access point" to be able to lock down the settings,
all i get is the Web page not found error thing.

Ok so this is how i have it set up

An Edimax ASDL Router / Modem Connected right into my ASDL, and the access
point connected to this.

From what i assume the Access point should be getting an IP from the Router?
If it should be, when i go into the router setup, only 1 ip is showing up
(My PC's IP)

Im going to cry soon! Help me please!

Access points that are strictly access points (and not routers) are not
assigned IP addresses as they do not need them (a layer 1/2 vs. 3 networking
thing). However, they can usually be accessed with an IP address. It's
probably 192.168.1.1 or similar. Check the access point's documentation.
Some access points also come with software to locate the access point on the
network.

Then tell that to my cisco ap and it's ip address that it received
from dhcp. And yes they DO need them, or how else would you set them
up or make changes once they are in place.

Well, the problem is that most cable/DSL modems are instructed to only
assign one IP address. If your (non router) AP gets assigned that IP
address then your wireless card will not work. Thus, an AP that is not a
router should not request an IP address. It more likely has a 192.168.x.x
IP address that can only be reached on the LAN.

I was just replying to what was said ie: Access points that are

That is not correct, they can and do and they need (to set up) once
mounted and installed on the network, an ip address.
