Hi, Please can somebody help? I am having a problem getting a working
connection between my laptop with a wireless USB dongle, and my US Robotics
wireless broadband router.

To save on the size of this e-mail I have done a VERY detailed web page,
including screen shots of the various network settings etc. Please have a
look at ....

Try this:
1) Under properties, uncheck everything except TCP/IP
2) From your writeup, I assume that 192.168.123.254 is actually the LAN IP
address for your router-how you access it from your computer. This is OK for
the gateway, but the NIC IP address needs to be another IP address on the same
net, like 192.168.123.250. Your setting would give you the IP address conflict
message you see.
3) If you are unable to get an IP address automatically from your router, check
the DHCP setup on your router. But using a fixed IP address as in 2) is fine.

Thanks for the reply. Altered the IP address but still no joy. The router is
set to DHCP but when I use the automatic settings it still does not work.

Thanks to everyone for all the help and suggestions. I now have a full
working connection where I can view web pages!

When trying to obtain an address automatically the laptop was assigned an
address in the totally wrong range, that is why I had to use the manual
settings.

I altered my IP address as most of you suggested, as this was obviously
incorrect (my mistake). I noticed in the router configuration settings that
the IP address range settings were from 192.168.123.100 to 192.168.123.199,
so I assigned 192.168.123.100

I still could not access web pages, so I went in to the MAC address control
for the router and assigned the addresses manually for each machine that I
have. Guess what, this worked!

It looks as if it just wasn't going to work on the factory defaults, using
the automated settings.

Thanks again

Mark
