Are you trying to do backhaul or wide area coverage?

For backhaul, there is Motorola Canopy, Proxim Tsunami, Wi-LAN, and some
others.

Canopy has a new 2.4 GHz product announced ... I believe it was posted
here:

http://www.wireless--lan.com/wlanforum.html

It is hard to tell from your description if this will do the trick or if you
need something totally different.

thanks for the info bill i checked it out but i dont think it'll be
cost effective for me, i found some other hardware AP's that seem to
be suited for my requirements has anyone heard of "senao" before?

anyways the area im trying to cover is mostly residential but there
are obstructions here and there (buildings) will the 2.4ghz frequency
get through? btw cellular service runs on which frequency band?

thanks for your help.

Also, is it a rural clear line of sight system you're looking for, or an
urban system cluttered with buildings.

There are in the UK, various BBFWA licences still available or is this a
local wireless ISP system you're looking to create ?

Yes, it can get pricy. Some people put up a pair of 802.11b routers and
some dish antennas and get that to work.

There is a guy in Ireland who is connecting between some islands that way.

Look at http://www.intelligentislands.com/ for more information.

Cellular can be quite a bit more expensive than Canopy and similar offerings
because of the infrastructure costs and range.

There are a variety of frequencies, depending on the age and technology.
They are licensed bands.

In the US they are called 800 MHz 1900 MHz but are actually:

824MHz-896 MHz and
1850MHz-1990MHz or 1.9 GigaHertz

I'm not sure what
