A friend of mine wants to share his internet connection with me but
even though the signal is strong, I cannot surf the net.

I see his network SSID on Windows XP and connect to his network after
selecting his SSID from the "View available wireless networks" box. No
WEP is used now but he said he may have to use it in the future.

When I load IE and try to go to my homepage, I get an immediate error
"Cannot display page..." You know, the usual disconnected from the net
error.

We are not network experts and would appreciate any input from more
experienced users. Thank you!

For WM2003 its...Start>Settings>Connections tab at bottom>Wireless Ethernet
icon> click on the name below Add New Settings>The dropdown box Connects to:
The Internet
At the bottom click the Authentication tab and uncheck all boxes(Check box
next to: The Key is provided for me automatically is ok either way for a
non-WEP setup) because your friend is not using WEP.

Enjoy!

How is he sharing his Internet connection? Have you set up a Windows
Connection using his password and account (or better, a second one he gets
from his ISP for you).
