Please Help,

My brother has just bought a laptop, he intends to use it for his work
out in the "field", and also wants to use it at home in place of a
standard P.C.

He has decided he wants to sign up with an ISP using ADSL Broadband
(with is available in his area).

Can any of the subscribers recommend a reliable and helpful ISP for
someone who is only a novice to the internet and who is a late starter
to computers.

Many Thanks.

Rick.

Hi Rick,

Try and take a look at www.adslguide.org - there are some excellent
comparison tools there.

I personally use Force9.net who Plus.net in all but name. From ordering to
using, I have not had a days problem since signing up.

Best wishes in your own choice,

Gareth Edmondson

well AOL are quite good for newbies i suppose except they treat you like
morons and lock you in with their uncompetitive practices - for example what
do you do with the totally non-standard AOL emails and address book when you
leave as only a few ISP like MSN have a conversion tool

plusnet are good

freeserve are very good now (used to be crap)
and very good for newbies

used to be a sign of naffness to say you were with freeserve but they really
are very good now

so are pipex

as are bulldog

AVOID demon - (used to be very good but utter crap since cliff stanford sold
it to thus plc who know sweet FA about the internet and care even less)
tiscali , BT Openwoe , AOL (forget what i said - even for a newbie - their
target market - they are rubbish and give you zero street cred - which may
not be an issue for you)

for you - go freeserve i reckon

you might want to look at MSN also (i assume they do BB now?)

PlusNet is both reliable, responsive and almost the cheapest to boot.
Mine hasn't missed single bit since may installation.
Regards,
Martin

MANY THANKS to all for your help and advice, think I will be taking a
close look at PlusNet.

May have to come back on modem advice!

Cheer's.

Rick.
