HELP - WEIRD problem. Cannot connect to netscape.com from XP

I have several computers running various OS's accessing the internet via
a linux firewall - no problems with them at all. I added a new box (IBM
ThinkCenter) running XP, and it can connect to the local LAN and to MOST
websites, but not all - "home.netscape.com" being one that always fails
- there are others as well. During the same time that the XP box fails,
I can get to the same website from other boxes on the network. If I
bypass the firewall and plug the XP directly into my DSL connection, it
also can hit all of the sites. It only fails when going thru the
firewall, or so it seems. But it's the ONLY box that fails.

I've opened the firewall up so nothing is blocked (iptables shows
default policy is ACCEPT for in/out/forward, as well as for nat). I'm
not terribly win literate, but not a complete dope (don't think) either.
As far as I can tell, there are no XP firewall settings enabled.

I've tried everything I can think of but have run into a wall. I sure
hope somebody can help.

TIA

Have you implemented a HOSTS file solution to blocking ads? If so,
you may wish to check your HOSTS file to make sure that
home.netscape.com, as well as other sites you frequent, are not
listed. That has been a problem which I've run into in the past.

Fraid I'm not using any ad blocking. All of the other computers on the
LAN can get to the sites - it's just the one that can't...

Found something else interesting. If I config the XP box to use an http
proxy on port 8118, all works fine.
