Hello Group: here is the setup as best as I can describe:

DSL into Lynksys router which feeds both machines. Both reach the internet
fine.
I've told the ME machine to "share the printer (no password)
The XP machine is my machine upstairs and the downstairs machine which is
named :"Downstairs"
is for mom. Printer is downstairs for mom.

The ME machine just replaced an old old machine running NT were I could get
to the printer from XP okay.

The XP computer can see "Downstairs" in Workgroup from My Network Places >
Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network > Worgroup > Downstairs but thats
as far as it gets. Double clicking on Downstairs yields This message:
//Downstairs is not accessible. You might not have permission to access
this network resource. The network path was not found.

Since it sees Downstairs then this would presumably leave an access problem
of some sort.

I will furthur note that I can turn on file sharing on XP and can see that
both from XP and from downstairs and it is accessible from
downstairts. Printer is an HP LaserJet 4. The Share name I gave it was
"HPLJ4".

Any ideas out there I'd appreciate hearing
them! Thanks Much, Dallas...

I will additionally note on this problem that neither computer seems to be
able to ping the other and they are able to ping themselves (the pings all
timeout and are pinging the correct ip address)

Also just ran into article KB177078 on here and created IRPStackSize in the
Registry (find did not find one) set to 32 to my XP Home machine. No change
in behaviour that I can see.
I still can't see the shared printer but can see the name "Downstairs"
listed in Workgroup in My Network Places.

I will note that this ME Computer came with Norton AV installed. one of the
first things I did was uninstall it. As I don't care for it.
So I don't know what version it was. I do not see any indication that the
IRPStackSize mod should be done on the ME machine; so I have not done so; I
hope that is correct.

Any Ideas Welcome!
Thanks Much, Dallas...

In case it helps anyone: the resolution to this was to enable the two
machines through their firewalls.
If you run a firewall such as Trend or Sygate (which my two machines were)
you need to do this.
I was suprised by it as my IP addrs had not changed and my upstairs computer
had not changed.
Sygate had been reloaded into the new downstairs computer now running ME.
I don't get why the prior downstairs running NT could ping upstairs (never
changed upstairs!) but all is working
as expected now.

Regards to all,
Dallas...

"Sygate had been reloaded" says it all - you had to retrain it to your local
situation.
