I had adsl enabled on a line here about a week ago and it had been working
fine until recently..
However, it now sometimes loses sync with the exchange - can anyone suggest
any reasons why?
When it was installed (last sunday) I spoke to the BT engineer and he said
that it was well within spec for the service (its a 2MB line)
Until friday it was working perfectly, then on friday evening it lost sync
with the exchange for a short while (15/20 minutes I think), it did this
again on Saturday morning and on Sunday afternoon.
I have both an Alcatel USB modem and a Speedtouch Home (hacked to Pro) here
and the problem appears to apply to both of these.
The only difference at my end is that until Friday morning I was plugging in
the rj11 cable in via a fax/modem adaptor (totally unfiltered). On Friday
afternoon I changed this to a BT ADSL faceplate (as sold by
http://www.clarity.it/) - could it be a faulty faceplate?
I am online now via the same faceplate so if it is that the issue it would
be intermittent?
Also, each time after I have lost sync I have tried removing the faceplate
and connecting the rj11 cable via the fax/modem adaptor - providing an
unfiltered signal again but the modem/router doesnt want to know until the
exchange is ready again.
Therefore it sounds to me that something is affecting the line card at the
exchange and I have to keep on waiting until it automatically resets itself
(ideas?)
The Speedtouch Home/Pro doesn't produce anything worthwhile in logging terms
and the USB modem reports zero CRC/SDU errors but it does report loss os
signal/framing/errored seconds everytime this happens.
Finally, when using the BT ADSL faceplate I have a CallSign switch (model:
telcom 650) plugged in to the "voice port" - though I woudn't have thought
that would cause any problems to the adsl part of the line..
Do I need to get my ISP to get BT to look at the line card or could it
possibly be down to the filter?
TIA for any help/advice

Sunil
