My integrated 802.11b wireless on my Toshiba Satellite Pro works
flawlessly connecting to a netgear mr314 router.

This may be obvious but I saw posted here before that the user did not
turn on the wireless switch, located just above the DVD player on my Pro.
Also have you checked that channal is set the same as the router, SSID
the same.

As someone else said - is the physical toggle switch on the side/back
of your laptop set to "on"? This enables the internal wireless card.
There should be a (yellow?) LED that is on also if the card is
enabled.

If the switch is on...have you tried taking the laptop to another
location where wireless is available? Is there a Starbucks or Borders
Books with T-Mobile service nearby? Can you connect to their network?
That should tell you whether the card itself is functioning. (No, you
don't need a T-Mobile subscription just to try the card - open a web
browser and you'll be directed to the login page, in which case your
wireless card is working.)

What OS? I found this on the SMC site referring to trouble with a Toshiba
laptop and W2K.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, 2.2 Ghz Celeron, 40 GB HD, with built-in
(factory) 802.11b integrated wireless NIC.

I have a Linksys Wireless-G broadband router that does both "b" and "g". No
matter what I try, it will not connect. Spent two hours on the phone with
Linksys support to no avail.

The router works fine with another Toshiba laptop that I use with a PCMCI
wireless card plugged in.

Anyone experience problems (or success) with Toshiba integrated wireless?

Any suggestions re the Linksys router?

Many thanks.

I do not have the Toshiba but I can tell what I did to solve my problem. My
access point happens to be a linksys 802.11b although my new laptop will
support "g" and retro to "b". This is not an issue. What was an issue with
my integrated card was that , under advanced settings, Broadcom made the MTU
the same setting as the RTU (packet overflow size). Great; this allows
overflow at the maximum transmission unit size! No wonder I could connect
for a few minutes and then it would drop out. What I did was to leave MTU
the same and made the RTU slightly less (I randomly chose about 7 less).
While I was at it, I did customize the settings for 11MHz and other 802.11b
characteristics but that should be automatic anyways and probably was not
necessary. However, I just wanted to fine tune for what I was using to avoid
problems. After that, everything has worked fine.

Thanks Bob. Your comment about the correct channel sent me back to make
sure my channels were straignt. Unfortunately they were.

The switch has never been an issue, because the computer/wireless do
identify that the router is there (by SSID), but just won't make the
connect.

Will keep plugging away.

Thanks much.

Thanks Andrew. Heading to a Borders may be just the ticket to check out the
NIC on another wireless router.

Thanks again.

Maybe your Toshiba satelite is like mine, it has an integrated aerial
and a slot "wireless ready" but won't work until you buy the Toshiba
802.11b card and plug it in.

No, mine recognizes the router's SSID, but just won't connect.

Thanks.
