I have a lynk sys wrt I have a desk top pluged in and a wirerless running
off it. I set up a home network through win xp. Laptop is win xp home
version desk top is pro both with sp2 installed and all updates and no
firewalls. My problem is my lap top can see and get into my desktop but I
don't see the laptop on my desktop. My desktop can only see it's own shared
files folder in network connections. I have my router set up pretty secured
with mac address enabled. I have desk and lap in there. I'm somewhat new to
this and had help from someone else to set up a secured wirerless
connection.

Are both your laptop and desktop using the same workgroup?
To check, right-click on my computer icon>properties>Computer Name, and
check what's there in front of the "Workgroup:"
Also make sure the built in windows firewall isn't blocking the file
sharing on any of the two computers.
Try to access the other computer by typing its name in the Start>run
using this format: \\computername

I just checked and for some reason my desktop is only showing up in local
network. I can't access my desktop through mshame. I tried to redo the setup
home networking with ms wizard. I also tried to access with the
\\computername and it didn't find it. My laptop shows my desktop in mshome.
But in my laptop shows my desktop in the internet area and only shows the
laptop in the local network area. I didn't have this issue till I made my
laptop a sercured connection since I live in the city now.

Your lost me
In your first post you said that your desktop is the one who cannot see
the laptop, but later you said that the laptop shows the desktop in
mshome but not the other way.
And you didn't tell me if they both are on the same group, i will
suppose they are.
But by the way i wouldn't trust the home networking wizard of windows
so much, just try disabling the windows firewall completely(temporarly
if you're afraid), and assign different fixed IP from the same subnet
for each computer(like 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3), and check the
checkboxes of "file and printer sharing" and "client for microsoft
network" from the connection properties on each computer.
