Got this unit and its painfully slow even when hardwired. take threeminutes
for a banner to come up. I have flashed it to the most up to date firmware ,
tried auto config and manual ,no change. connect with my old smc7004abr and
everything works great. Right now this boatanchor is just being used as a
access point for the wireless and the routing is through my old unit.
Anybody have similar issues. I followed tech support suggestion and set my
MTU to 1400 no change. Replaced the unit no change. I am running XP
pro(desktop Cat 5) win me laptop(wireless smc). HELP

I have same unit with no problems. Routing is not terribly fast, it seems to
add ~30ms lag to every packet, but is bearable. I've had problems with
built-in firewall, try disabling it. Check your cabling - change patch
cables and see if it makes a difference.

My 7004VWBR would get really slow on the config screens if the internet
connection was bad. My cable modem was really flaky until they took out a
TV trap filter. I don't have Cable TV, so there was a filter in line that
was causing trouble for the cable modem, which in turn caused fits for the
SMC.

Whenever the internet was slow, the SMC config screens were slow. I could
either reset the cable modem, or use the advanced-status-release/renew
buttons and it would clear up.
