Hi All,
I have three computers connected to a router, which is connected to an
ADSL line. My son has just set up a webcam on his computer. When it is
on and working it shows his computers ip address which is given by the
router. What I want to know is, could this compromise my systems
security in any way, or is this normal. Thanks

I wouldn't worry.

If you're not on somebody's shit list, you're not doing anything
worthwhile.

When you send an email, when you use instant messenger, when you post to a
newsgroup all give up your IP address, so your son is not giving any
information that can not already be gotten if someone so wishes, so as long
as you have a firewall running which is set up correctly, and a decent
antivirus software running, and your router properly set-up you will have no
problems.

About sums it up. I would add that a local LAN address is alot less use
to a hacker than your real internet IP address.

Thanks, that is just what I wanted to know. I had visions of someone
hacking into my network because the webcam was showing everyone his
computers ip.
