I need to disconnect my old Microsoft 'B' Router and
install a new 'G' router from Netgear. So far, it
appears, I cannot get past the old installation to setup
the new router.

Any idea what software I should remove? Or what steps to
take to free myself of the old system?

I want to KEEP my microsoft network (for the wired
machines to the router) since I had a terrible time
setting it to begin with. Hopefully I will not have to go
through that again.

Remove the old software for Broadband Networking; but do
not change any settings. Call up the new setup from
Netgear and run that - it will be rejected.

Screw around with the settings in your network
neighborhood and retry netgear setup and fool around some
more with settings. Again rejected ... but then it just
starts working. Skips the part about registering.

The horrible way settings are controlled in XP makes this
a real pain. Just try to find where you change the
settings in a logical order or even completely. They are
scattered everywhere.
