You are going to have your hands full with consumer level equipment like
LinkSys for reliability over 500 feet, IMO. Look at the Cisco Aeronet
access point and the specs for both -b and -g in overland transmission.

want a wireless modem/router at the service end with excellent
encryption and a good focused antenna.
