Help needed: Intermittent internet

Setup:

Dell computer
Windows 98SE
Cable modem
Netgear MR814 router running NAT and DHCP
Kingston 10/100 NIC
Windows 98 Internet settings set to Auto

Problem:

The computer loses internet connection after 10-15 minutes, many times
daily. A reboot each time fixes the problem. When the internet fails the
computer retains its IP address and I can ping the router and the outside
world. Seems to be a DNS issue with the 98 installation. (??)

How can I repair?

thank you,

JM

Can you access websites directly using their IP addresses? Are you
using a software firewall?

I did not try that (I'm going back out tomorrow), although I was able to
ping a couple of DNS servers using their IP address.

No.

I'm not sure, but this doesn't appear to be the problem. There is a
wireless laptop connected to this router that never loses connection.
