Can anyone help me to do the above? I need to prove a point by disabling
the firewall completely, but don't know how.

Many Thanks
Steve

If it's similar to the DG814 i use, if you disable NAT then you lose
the firewall. You'll have to assign your computer(s) valid external ip
addresses.

Of course you would need to own multiple internet IP addresses to do
this successfully, or limit yourself to just one machine accessing the
internet.

The DG834G supports VPN passthru and for this reason the firewall
operates using customizable rules. By default it is set to allow all
outbound traffic and block all inbound traffic. In theory you should
be able to just delete, or de-select the "block all inbound" setting.

Try this - I've not tried it myself and I am not able to right now (as
I am at work) but in theory that should do it.

Does said DG834G support Global IP addresses on the LAN then? If someone
can tell me definitely yes from experience then it saves me having to
borrow my dad's to check. I'm looking for a device that can do this, as
I have one that can't

I could not say for certain - the best bet would be to contact Netgear
support. It is available pre and post sales any time, day or night.

In answer to your question, disabling NAT should, in theory, allow you
to assign "global" IP addresses to machines on your LAN, providing you
own the rights to use those IP addresses. You will also need to
switch off the DCHP server on the router which is enabled by default.

Additionally, firewall rules change considerably with this set up. My
instinct would be say there is no firewall, but I am sure I read that
with the latest firmware (v1.04) it does offer some extra security
over the previous firmware version. Again, Netgear themselves would
be the best source of information.
