Hi!
I have the following wireless network at home:
3com wireless 11g (54mbit) router/DSL gateway
3com PC NIC's 11g (54mbit) with external antenna.
2 pc's each with the above NIC.
I use WPA enctyption with passphrase and DHCP is enabled on the
router.
both pc's are running windows XP PRO with the latest update.
1st pc works almost flawlessly. It will automatically connect to the
gateway upon power on and it will work fine most of the time. BUT
sometimes the connection will drop. Most times it will automatically
reconnect BUT sometimes I will have to manually select the network and
clik connect.
2nd pc will absolutely NOT connect automatically. Everytime I log in I
will have to manually select the network and click connect. Most times
this will enable the connection at it will work fine until poweroff.
But sometimes it will say it is connected but access to the internet
is not possible and I will have to disable/enable the connetion for it
to return to normal operation. This is a major pain in the butt.
I use windows wireless networking. In other words I do NOT use the
3com launcher and wireless manager software. I have tried using it but
it is even worse. It will not automatically connect and it can't
remember that it should connect automatically and it is generally a
piece of bug-ridden software that I would rather not use.
Now... has anyone of you got an idea what I should try to do to get
this network to run more reliably?
The NIC's are with an external antenna and the signal strength is very
good or excellent as reported by windows XP.
I am more or less at my wits end here and really hope that one of you
has the magic solution!
