Are all the machines running software firewalls? Have you tried
temporarily disabling them\setting up rules to allow local network
sharing etc...

Also, are the PCs connected to the router by Ethernet or wireless? If they
are using wireless, there may be a feature called Wireless Isolation turned
on (not sure whether this router has this feature) which allows wireless PCs
to access the internet but not each other - it's a security feature. If so,
you may need to find out how to turn it off.

So with the firewalls turned off, can *none* of the PCs ping any other
others on the local network? Have you tried both directions - are there any
cases where PC A can ping PC B but PC B can't ping PC A? Can all the PCs
ping the router's IP address. What firewall are you using? I wonder if it's
not properly turned off.

Are you trying to ping by IP address rather than by PC name? Even if name
resolution has failed, pinging by IP should work.

Have you tried rebooting the router in case it's got into a Strange State
(TM)?

Check the output of "ipconfig /all" on a couple of PCs. The output should be
similar to:

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : martinlaptop
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated
Controller
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : [MAC address]
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.3
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 27 May 2007 11:31:27
Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 30 May 2007 11:31:27

In other words, there should be a default gateway, a DHCP server and a DNS
server listed - probably all on the same IP address: that of the router.

Why not get a local PC technician in to fix it? It'll cost you £40 - £50, everything
will work perfectly afterwards and you'll save yourself hours of grief?

Well worth it IMHO
