Help!!! MN-720 locks up laptop

Everytime I insert the MN-720 into my laptop the machine
via the setup wizard or just in Windows 98 itself, it will
lock up and causes me to reboot. If the card is inserted
when booting up, the machine will hang on startup right
after it loads the MN-720 driver. This is an older laptop
running Windows 98 Secoond Edition. Any ideas?

Yes it is a cardbus. It's a Toshiba 440CDX running
Win98SE. I even tried updating the BIOS to the latest
version available which has updated support for Win98 but
still no luck. I also used FDISK and reinstalled Win98
but still no luck.

Please note that I can get the drivers loaded but the
machine locks up when I try to use the MSBN Utility to
view adapter settings from the tools menu or if I run
through the Setup wizard it will lock up when it starts
searching for available networks.

Can you try your card in someone else's computer (and do you have any
other cardbus cards you can try in yours) to rule out a defective
card?

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunatly I have no where
else to test the card and the only other cards I have are
16 bit. Maybe I should exchange the card for a new one.
I actually did get it connected once but then then I
enabled sharing which required a reboot and I haven't had
any more luck since. I also purchased and installed the
Xbox adapter which works flawlessly so I know the MN-700
is working correctly.

OK I was able to get a CardBus card and test in my
laptop. The card works flawlessly. Once I put the MN-
720 back in and try to configure it locks up.

I figured that maybe it was the MN-720 that was defective
since I am able to run a CardBus card on the laptop. I
just went out and purchased a new mn-720 and I am getting
the exact same results. So now I have 2 cards that don't
work. I am at a complete loss here.

Does device manager show any hardware conflicts?

At this point you should phone MS Product Support and see if they have
a fix.

No conflicts. Seems there are some others on here that
also are having unresolved problems with Win98. I'll
give Product support a call. I hope they can get it
working. I really want to stick with one brand for all
components going forward. Thanks for your help.

Well I called MS Product Support and got some guy in
India!!! All he could do was read through his script and
have me reinstall the software. I still have no
resolution but I now have a registered product with
support for 2 years. Lucky me!!! Supposedly I am going
to be receiving a call from the escalation team who will
definitly be able to fix the issue. That was Friday and
so far no call. Hopefully some one from Redmond will call
today who actually has a clue!!!
