Help : Mandrake 9.2 Shorewall, can't telnet or ssh.. can ping though!

Hi,

I am running

Mandrake 9.2
Shorewall 1.4.6

I have my gateway machine which has 2 nic cards
one to the internet and one to my internal network.

I have a machine on my internal network that can
ping both cards on my gateway and my isp's gateway.

I want to be able to telnet(just for testing) and ssh
from the machine on my internal network to the gateway
and from the gateway to the machine on my internal network.

If I run

services iptables stop.
I can do this just fine.

but as soon as I run
shorewall start.. or from a reboot I can't telnet or ssh between
the machines.

Any ideas, assistance or places to look would be greatly
appreciated.

I assume that Shorewall is configured to log:info so could you see
something in /var/log/messages?
