Hi,

Can someone here please help me. I have xp pro, recently bought a
linksys cable modem BEFCMU10 to activate my cox cable. From the first
day I connected it gives me one problem. The problem is that once I
turned off my computer and turn it on again later, the browser isn't
connecting to internet. I clicked on the 2 computer icon at bottom
right corner there is only sent activity, nothing on received. I've
called cox and they tell me according to their system, my computer has
been on for hours! How can that be when the PC itself is turn off. So
far the only remedy is to unplug/wait 1 min./plug back in, and within
20 sec. I'm online. Can anyone tell me if I have a defective modem or
not setting something right? Thank you so much.

You have probably a misconfiguration on the settings of
the cable modem or the PC.

For the PC, right-mouse click on the two computers icon,
and open Network Connections. You should have a LAN or
high-speed connection. Right-mouse click on it and open
properties. These should match the settings from your ISP
(dynamic or static IP, etc.)

The second thing you want to check is on IE. Open
Tools/Options. Under Connections check that you have
selected Never dial a connection. Under LAN settings
probably you shouldn't use a proxy (although that depends
on the ISP)

Finally, you may need to configure the modem. I do not
have that type of modem, so you need to check the doc or
call linksys.

You may also want to call your ISP to help with the PC
configuration.
