I hopw I'm posting in the right newsgroup.

One of my users decided to be smart and activate XP-Pro on his new laptop.
When asked if this was going to be part of domain, of course, he said "NO".

Now, I want to join his laptop to the domain, only when I click on My
Computer, Properties, Computer Name, Change, there is only one option, for a
workgroup - not for a domain.

I cheked the on-line help, but didn't find anything on how to tell XP-Pro
that I want to join a domain, so that it cn add that option in the "Member
Of" panel, in the above dialog.

I know this must sound so ignorant, but if anyone can point me in the right
direction, it would be great.

Doesn't sound like it is really XP Pro,...it sounds like it is XP
Home,...you'd better double check that.

I admitted being ignorant, to start with :-(( I just checked again. You
are right on the $$ and I am steaming. The sticker on the laptop indeed
says XP-Pro. The user just informed me that he had problems so he decided
to "restore" but he only had a restore CD for XP-Home (handy at the time),
but figured they are both from HP systems, so it wouldn't really matter.

Arrrrggghhhhh

So, the only way to set him up on the Domain, is to restore again, this time
from the correct, XP-PRO CD that came with his laptop. You gotta love it.

Thank you very much. Sometime we can't see the forrest for the trees :-(
