Sick and tired of Kingston Communication. Are thee any alternatives
that deliver either on a freephone line or to a non-BT number?

Not the last time I checked, we have a client in Hull that needed ADSL
but unfortunately had to use Kingston instead of our usual, and the
same as all the clients other offices, ISP.

Hmm. Do you know any dial ups or a site to look at?

Is OnStream any good?

Unfortunately we never bothered looking for an alternative, we just
used Kingston as it needed to be ADSL for the VPNs to work.

How are Kingston Communications still able to hold a monopoly in Hull?

AOL offer genuine 080[0|8] access with no cut offs. I've been very pleased
with their service in the past.

Because no-one else is prepared to compete with them and offer service.

BT have had a licence to operate in Hull for *years*, they choose not to
offer service to residential customers there - mainly because they
can't/won't compete with the low line rental, unmetered local calls etc.

Indirect access operators have done the same in the past too, they also have
had theoretical access to KC lines (Mercury AKA CWC was one of the few
exceptions to offer access from the outset) but have declined to do so, even
with lots of prompting by KC customers seeking service.

I thought BT had a mandate to supply anyone who wanted one with a PSTN line.
Have I been misinformed or not been told the full story?

They are obliged to supply every household with a phone line... except
in Hull.
