Help configuring Linksys BEFW11S4

My ISP sends me a block of fixed IPs to my modem/router and I wish to
connect that block to a wireless network, but I can't figure how to
configure the WAN interface.

I've got the whole thing working by connecting the wired router to one of
the Linksys LAN connectors, but that's a really bad way to operate because
it allows TFTP access from the WAN when it's enabled on the LAN.

Can anyone explain to me how to configure the WAN interface?

On Internet Connection Type, I tried entering Static IP and for the IP
address I gave it a second address on the LAN (where of course all LAN
addresses are real and not local or private anyway) and the same netmask
for the size of my netblock, but nothing seems to pass from the WAN
connector to the LAN connectors.

BTW, I have a similar setup on another network using an Orinoco BG2000 and
that was plain sailing to configure because Orinoco apparently understands
this type of configuration.

Anyone got any bright ideas?

Tony

You could use the "uplink" port on the Linksys, instead of the WAN port.
Use the "Router" working mode, instead of the "Gateway" mode, on the
Dynamic Routing page of the setup. Page 46 of my users guide.

I don't know how that will affect the tftp filtering that you want.

I'm not sure what this uplink port is (I can't even find the word uplink
when I grep the entire manual) but that suggestion to change from Gateway
to Router is a most excellent one which I'll certainly try.

If I can get the WAN onto the WAN port then I believe I can deny TFTP
access (which is used to upgrade the Linksys software but lacks the
security of FTP) while continuing to allow it from the LAN ports.

Thanks again for the helpful suggestion.
