Help -> Common Problem with WPC54G?

I have WRT54G/WPC54G combo with the latest firmware/drivers and WPA
enabled.

WRT54G ver 1.0: Firmware version 2.02.2
WPC54G: Driver version 3.30.15.0

All works fine.

However, when I take my laptop (win2k/sp4) to the office and plug it
into the company network then try to take it back home and try to get
back on my wireless network. It will not work.

I get communication between the card and router, but no internet
connection.

I even tried the DNS Configuration on Linksys's site:

http://www.linksys.com/support/top10...%209x_2000.asp

The only way I've been able to get it to work again is to
uninstall/reinstall the WPC54G driver.

Used to not have this problem when I had the previous driver.

Sounds like a problem with the current Linksys driver.

Guess I could go back to the previous driver (if I could find it) and
drop back to WEP.

Anybody else out there experiencing this or have a solution?

Thanks.

John

Hi John
Are you saying that if I try to uninstall/reinstall my WPC54G drivers, my
WPA connection will stop dropping? I went back to WEP because of that, and I
didn't even connect my computer to another network since the upgrade(have
the exact same drivers as you)
I'll try it, i'm really out of idea's, tried everything suggested on this
newgroup.

I have this exact hardware configuration and mine works fine. The
only difference is that I use XP on my laptop. I also use WPA.

Something to consider - I always login in to the laptop first and then
plug in the WPC54G after. I give it a couple of seconds to see the
wireless network and then I can connect to the outside work. BTW - my
laptop has a "real IP" for work and I use DHCP at home and get
assigned the next open IP (192.168.1.xxx). Do you have a hard coded
IP for your work or does your laptop DHCP in for an address?

I have DHCP at work as well.

I'll make sure I plug in the WPC54G after I log in next time.

Of course, I don't think this should matter.

I'll keep watching for a new driver, might even break down and call Linksys support.

I had the same problem with my wireless adapter. The way I got around
it was to disconnect my network cable at work before going into
hibernate(and/or shutdown.) Then when I logon to my network at home,
my WPC54G works fine.
