Hello,

I have set up a friend's desktop with a BT USB Voyager 1010 by copying
the SSID, encryption, channel etc etc settings taken from a laptop
which connects to the Internet successfully via the BT 1250 router.

But! Although the Voyager pannel indicates that it is "connected" and
that the signal is "good", I cannot get onto the Internet using
Internet Explorer.

If I do an ipconfig /all I get an IP of 169.254 etc and a subnet mask
of 255.255.255.255 - where as the IP of the laptop is 172.16.1.33 and
the router 172.16.0.1.

Something wrong somewhere - any ideas please?

Cheers

Geoff

Might be an idea to download the Voyager software from the BT site.
The USB modems use a form of dial up networking rather than a LAN
connection and I doubt that router settings will work at all on one.

Bill,

sorry, I did not make it clear - this is not a usb modem, it is a
network adapter ...

Cheers

What is subnet mask for VPN, should be 255.255.0.0, I note that the subnet
you gave is for Network IP address. It would seem to be working as
connection is up. I think it is routing type problem. Here is URL for BT
1250 router, http://downloads.bt.com/homenetworki...50_install.pdf
the BT 1010 adapter can be reached similarly. Did you use appropriate CD's
from BT to install equipment?

Tom,

sorry for slow reply - have been away for a 24 hours.

yes - I used the BT Voyager 1010/1020 CD to install and configure the
1010 adapter.

When looking at the 1250 router screen I can see 3 PCs, i is conencted
by cable, the other 2 by wireless - only the one which I have just
installed the usb adpater is not visible.

will check the link above.

Thanks

Geoff
