Help!Access point setup problems

Hi,any guidance on this much appreciated.Have 2meg adsl through a
Speedstream 5861 4 port modem/router(the one BT supplies businesses)working
fine on my PC(set as dhcp server).If I plug my laptops onboard nic into the
router it works fine.My problem is that when I plug my 11g access point into
it although the software on the lappy(now fitted with pcmcia wless nic)sees
the access point I can't browse the network.Tried many different
configurations on the access point set up with no success.Can only be
something silly that I have missed but I can't figure it out.
