Hi all...sorry to disturb the ng .....but I've already tried all I could
myself.....
The case:
Ihave set a Wireless net with the following components:
an USRobotic 8022, 22 ADSL Mbs routerconnected via an ADSL 256 PPoE
connection
A windows 2000 based desktop cable connected to the router and a Notebooc PC
withwindows XP wireless connected to the router via a 802.11b compatible
card. The problem is: everiything works fine as far as the internet
concerned...both the PC can share the internet connection....but as I try to
transfer files between the two PC I come upon 2 rpblems: slowness and
disconnection:
With the latest (4.5) firmware release, as I try to download huge files from
the Desktop to the Note,t he wireless connection drops and I have to reset
the router to get the notebook connected again. I tried to set different
channels, DTIM rates, packet fragmentations..beacon intervals...but
nothing...
As the 8022 4.5 firmware version is reported to be a Beta, I uploaded the
previous one, 3.1, awith the resul that the connection has stopped
dropping. Nevertheless, the transfer speed between the 2 PC can'tgo over 500
kb/s...even within a few metres from the router...with excellent connection
quality and strenght reported by the NIC driver!!!
To check wether ithe bottleneck could be in the Router-Desktop connection,
I connected tto it he Notebook via cable, but, predictably, the transfer
speed became huge.... So, as I expected, the problemis in the wireless
router-to-notebook,but I can't understand where the problem could be.....
Any explanation-suggestion welcome...
Thanks in advance

Lorenzo

5 minutes is 333 kbytes/s or 3 Mbit/s
4 minutes is 3.75 Mbit/s

you don't see much more than 5 Mbit/s of data transfer ever on 802.11b

the 11 M in the standard is the speed over the air. You only get to
use about half of it in one direction and there are overheads using up
part of the available data rate to carry your TCP/IP packets.
