While waiting on my daughter getting school supplies I went int compusa
- They now have several items from hawking including the usb adapter /
6 db directional antenna combination. It was $69 as opposed to $52 +
shipping on ebay but an extra few dollars for immediate gratification
may be justified. It will pick up a 1/4 mile without even placing it
carefully and close to half if you put it in the window and move it
around till you find a sweet spot.

That's nice, but it's huge and looks heavy. I wouldn't want to carry that
all the time.

Yeah .. and only 6 db gain.
You can get omni-directional antennas with that much gain.

Not very big - about 3" high and only about 3 oz -all plastic. the
antenna can be folded down against base for storage but probably still
won't fit in your shirt pocket, the usb cable detaches. the base has a
skeleton head screw slot on bottom so you can "mount" it on any
convient screw
