It's normal for the DNS Configuration tab to have "Disable DNS"
selected when the IP Address tab has "Obtain an IP address
automatically" selected. The same DHCP server that provides the IP
address also provides the DNS server address. Since you see a DNS
server address in the output from Winipcfg, something else is the
problem.
The Microsoft web site doesn't respond to pings, so you can't use it
to verify DNS. Try pinging
www.google.com or
www.yahoo.com .
If you can ping those sites by IP address but not by name, try this
fix, even if you don't use a dial-up Internet connection:
1. Un-install Internet Connection Sharing (if installed).
2. Un-install Dial-Up Networking. Don't reboot.
3. Delete registry key HLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2.
4. Re-install Dial-Up Networking. Reboot.
5. Re-install ICS (if desired).
