I am having the disconnect, not able to get an IP from the DHCP.
I am on my 3rd WRT any the issue continues.

What I am seeing is that my .b adapters that are connecting to the WRT dont
seem to have this problem and that, i have two idenitcal PC's with idenitcal
..g adapters one has the issue and the other not.

Even when I swap the adapters the problem continues.

This leads me to beliver this is an XP/driver issue.

Any one else have thoughts/experience on this.

I've had the router lock up on me like that before. POwer cycling was
the only thing that helped. I use a Proxim b/g card under win2k.

Possibly. I don't know if we have enough data to support that
though. Various firmware for your AP fixes/introduces various bugs.
Are you working with any WEP or WPA?

Was the old one the default SSID for the router?

If so, how dense is your neighborhood? This could be easily explained
by a neighbor with the manufacturer of wireless gear using default
SSID's. Were the signal strength' the same?

I have a similar setup at home:

1. LinkSys WRT54G router (hardware revision V1.1, firmware originally
V1.42.3 but then updated to V2.00.8), connected to my cable modem,
2. A Windoze XP Pro desktop wired-connected to the router, and
3. A Windoze 2000 Pro desktop (with USB 2.0 interface) and a Windoze 2000
Pro laptop (with USB 1.1 interface), one of which wirelessly-connected to
the router with a Linksys WUSB54G USB 2.0 wireless network adapter.

When the desktop or the laptop in 3 above is wirelessly connected to the
router, the connection randomly drops/breaks. Sometimes the break happens
every few minutes but other times the connection remains solid for a day or
two. And once the connection breaks, the only way I can get it back is to
un-plug and then re-plug the WUSB54G. Without un-plugging and then
re-plugging the WUSB54G, its monitor appplication can see/find the router
and try the connection but never can get back the connection.

I'm also having a problem with dropped connections. I bought a Linksys
54G router which connects fine with my laptop which is using a PCMIA
54G card, however, the Linksys WUSB54G on my other desktop (running
XP) keeps dropping the connection. I continually have to use the
Linksys monitor to reconnect. It generally takes doing this 3 or 4
times before it will finally work.

Even when I reboot I have to go through this process.

Any thougths on how to keep the connection going.

the old was the default 'linksys'
i changed it to linksys19
then back to linksys
and the one that pops up periodically is linksys19

the bigger issue is really the intermitnent loss of client connections and
the inability to restablish despite good signal, additionally from time to
time a client will be connected but fail to obtain an ip from the DHCP.

Recently, this morning, I uninstalled the WLAN monitor and actived the
Wireless Zero Configuration in Windows XP on the desktop using the
USB54G adapter. I also used Windows Update to get all the Wireless
updates and my system has been more stable in last few hours. We'll
see if it holds connections or not. The problem of losing connection
appears to have stopped....at least since early this morning.
