Have Plusnet been removing IP addresses from customers?

Hi,

A couple of users I manage hardware for have recently lost their IP
addresses without warning or anything. No details in the contact us
tickets about this or emails.

What prompted this was an email that went out regarding idle
disconnects and I needed to check router settings on some systems to
ensure they would auto reconnect - what is the point of such timeouts
with such background traffic now anyway?

I am seriously thinking of recommending another ISP, but most of them
seem as bad or expensive. Are Plusnet still one of the best of the
£14.99 bunch?

Andrew.

How do you mean "lost". They have dynaic IP's which will some times
change...

To discourage people from running servers? To move people who want to run
servers to pay more?
To avoid running out of IP addresses?

I think so, still good bandwidth for most things....

On the Plus tariff the IP was always meant to be dynamic, however until
recently it behaved as static, i.e. on reconnection the IP stayed the same,
but that ended little while ago,
possibly in connection with the idle timeout.

Aparently the IP was always meant to be a dynamic IP. However, when
they signed up they got IP addresses allocated to them, and an A
record created. This A record has now gone and the users are using
different IP addresses. I am not so bothered, but the real thing was
the possible removal of the addresses without customer knollege, but
it was in the T&C when they signed up all along. I did wonder how
they would manage with so many users signing up.

I don't buy the IP address thing apart from the server issue - in
which case they would have more difficulty as they are on dynamic IP.
However, with the background traffic, it is possible they even won't
get disconnected, or will be reconnected immedeately when the router
connects back.
