Have I messed up?

Hi,
I've bought a Belkin 802.11g Wireless DSL/Cable Gateway Router ( Part #
F5D7230uk4) on the understanding that I could hook this upto my BY modem and
then connect my PC and laptop by wireless. Yet in the setup instructions is
telling me to connect my PC network cable to it. Like this:

Modem > 54g router > PC

I want this:

Modem > 54g router > Wireless PC/Laptop

My PC has a Belkin USB network adaptor and laptop wireless natwork card

Now if I wanted a wired network I'd have stuck with my wired router. But I'm
guessing I bought the wrong thing. Do I now need a access point?

3 minutes setup - my arse.

Thanks.

No, you don't need an access point - it should still work. (Have you tried
it?)

Both your USB network adaptor and laptop wireless natwork card will have to
be put in "Infrastructure" mode (instead of ad hoc which you may currently
use) and all 3 should use the same IP range

Manufacturers do sometimes recommend that if you plan to upgrade the routers
firmware, you do it via a wired connection but there is nothing saying you
cant just use wireless computers only in normal use

Regards
Sunil

That's not what he said - maybe you should read it again?
