Have BT recently extended the adsl range to over 6km???

I just checked my phone number again on the checker and instead of the usual
"your exchange is enabled but you are too far..." I now get "you may be
able to have broadband adsl up to 512k

This is certainly promising, but I have not heard anything on the grapevines

Last increased in September but the recent BT announcement
(http://www.btplc.co.uk/Mediacentre/A...003/nr0345.htm)
does say:

"Today's announcement still leaves 600 of the very smallest exchanges
without a trigger level, each serving fewer than 300 customers. Ten of these
serve fewer than ten customers each. These areas, serving around 100,000
households, will also require different partnership investment approaches to
receive broadband. There is then the issue of how to address the small
percentage of people who live in already enabled areas but who are currently
unable to get DSL broadband.

BT is currently trialling encouraging new wireless solutions and is working
to extend the physical reach of DSL from enabled exchanges."

So they are working on something - just try applying and see what happens..
maybe BT have done some work on the local loop in your area and your line
quality may have improved etc..

Regards
Sunil

Thanks Sunil. It does look promising. I checked my other line which is
isdn, and it said I was too far from the exchange, so maybe they have done
something to the line. The exchange has been enabled for about 3 years now,
its just us too far from the exchange. I am going to apply, I hope its not
a false start.

Well I'm sure I don't need to tell you to go for an HH-->ADSL conversion
just in case it fails!

Unfortunately, the line checkers are not the most accurate, especially if
its an ISDN line:/

Good Luck

Sunil

Well I knew they increased the line to 6km but I am unaware of any further
increases.

I have placed an order on the normal line. The checker for that line was a
definite no no. I dont care what line it is on, as long as I get the
service.

Another reason for the line checker now showing a good result is maybe after
they increased the line length I applied too soon. I last applied for BB as
soon as I heard they increased it to 6km, maybe they just had not updated
their database at that time.
Fingers crossed that it passes the tests, but I am not holding my breathe
waiting

Silly question, of course I am :-)
Been with them for 5 years from dial up to broadband (previous address) to
dial up then isdn. I have had an excellent service and see no reason to
change :-)
